Gateshead Festival of Compassion

12th Feb - 18th March, 2026

The Gateshead Festival of Compassion will highlight, organise, co-ordinate, or simply publicise a month of varied activities from mid-February 2026 (launched around Valentine’s day) around the theme of expressing love to people who are dying, caring for someone with a terminal illness or grieving. We aim to raise awareness of support that is available or events that may educate, challenge stigma, provide support in creative and accessible ways. For example by showing films, hosting talks, capturing memories, sharing stories etc.

Over the coming weeks, as activities and events are confirmed the programme will be added here. We are expecting there to be 30 – 50 different events or activities as part of the Festival of Compassion. Could you take part? See more details below.

We are looking for community, faith, arts and social support groups to put on an event related to the theme described above or be open to new people coming to activities they already do because of awareness raised through the Festival that will be widely publicised.
