Future
Plans

Over the next 9 months we will...

  • Co-ordinate and host a month-long Festival of Compassion (in partnership with Gateshead Libraries and a range of different public, private and voluntary organisations) with approximately 30 - 50 different creative, educational and participatory events and activities for the general public to engage with.

  • Raise awareness of the need for us all to talk more openly and confidently about dying, death and grief through broadcast and social media.

  • Co-ordinate awareness raising activities during Dying Matters Awareness week in May 2026

  • Present our research and vision / plans to the Gateshead Health and Wellbeing Board

  • Convene three ‘action groups’ focussed on supporting

  1. Young people, their teachers and schools / colleges

  2. Employees in the workplace through training and influencing more compassionate HR policies

  3. Voluntary and faith-based organisations to enable a more joined up approach

Funding

Compassionate Gateshead is a pilot and has secured funding until summer 2026 through three grants. However, we could do so much more if we could secure longer term and more funding and so this will also be a significant focus over the next 6 – 9 months.
